| On Saturday, March
15, 2008 seven students from the Huntington Middle School Beta
Club planted over 300 Daylilies at 8 Habitat for Humanity houses on
Orchard Way in Warner Robins. Ms. Gwen McDade, Beta Club Advisor,
organized the effort and the following students planted the flowers:
Jennifer Oberstadt, Nicholas Kregeloh, Marcus McClain, Barbara
Frazier, Rachael Frazier, Jacob Slife, and Nyesha Turner.
George and Mary Ealer of Warner Robins
donated the Daylilies. The students gathered at the Ealer's home at
9:30 Saturday morning. Mr. Ealer taught the students how to plant
the flowers and a little bit about his work as a hybridizer.
With the flowers loaded in the back
of a truck, they rode over to Orchard Way where the real work began.
At each house they dug holes and planted between 30 and 40 flowers
in each of the 8 yards. Each homeowner expressed deep appreciation
for the work these dedicated students did to brighten their yards.
Their words, but more importantly their smiles, conveyed how much
this meant to them.
Houston County Habitat for Humanity
volunteer Tom Prior expressed his admiration for these teenagers'
willingness to arise early on a Saturday morning and volunteer to do
hard work to brighten someone else's life. "Their selfless service
sets them apart from their peers as very special students. It is a
real pleasure to be associated with such exemplary young men and
women."
